Position Summary
DCDS is seeking a skilled HVAC Technician to join our Facilities Team. The ideal candidate will have experience in installing, maintaining, and repairing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the HVAC Technician will exercise technical independence in determining work methods and procedures and execute assignments received orally or through electronic or written instructions which may be accompanied by sketches or diagrams. Core responsibilities include advanced service for heating, cooling, plumbing and refrigeration equipment. As a part of the Facilities Team this position will perform general maintenance responsibilities to include facilities set-up, snow removal, deliveries, and other school maintenance needs. This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly compensated), benefits eligible position. The general work schedule is Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and may vary occasionally depending on operational needs.
Essential Duties
Install, maintain and repair heating, cooling, plumbing and refrigeration equipment
Perform facilities projects and tasks according to the school calendar and preventative maintenance requirements
Perform routine maintenance of other school equipment and machinery
Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Immediately report all preventable hazards and unsafe equipment and practices
Report any areas and equipment requiring specialized maintenance
Troubleshoot problems by observing mechanical equipment in operation
Promote a positive and productive relationship with students, parents and employees
Model ethical behavior that demonstrates diplomacy, empathy and tolerance within the School
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
3 – 5 years experience with heating, cooling, plumbing and refrigeration equipment; mechanical knowledge of machinery
Ability to work independently or with a team to complete assignments
Ability to read and interpret operating and maintenance instructions, procedural manuals and safety rules
Ability to follow rigid work instructions in a structure environment with capacity to deal with non-routine matters such as special projects with minimal specific instructions
Ability to problem solve and multi-task
Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing work priorities
Math competency, planning, and organizational skills
Valid Michigan driver’s license
General familiarity with computers, Microsoft Windows, email, Internet, and word processing software
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Ability to regularly walk, sit, stand, stoop, talk, hear and lift or move up to 50 pounds and/or move up to 100 pounds
Ability to ascend and descend a ladder to perform duties

The Detroit Country Day Upper School offers a strong and varied program that provides numerous opportunities for students to demonstrate their individual strengths and develop their potential. The rigorous college-preparatory program, which includes Honors and Advanced Placement courses in each discipline in addition to a diverse selection of electives, prepares students for college and beyond. In addition to a series of honors and Advanced Placement courses, students at Detroit Country Day Upper School may pursue an International Baccalaureate Diploma.
