We are currently seeking a HOME OWNERSHIP CONSULTANT to be based out of our Central Office who will be responsible for training, counseling and otherwise preparing first-time home buyers for pre-approval for financing for home purchase (which includes counseling on credit, down payments, loan options, home selection, insurance, working with Realtors, etc.). Other responsibilities include counseling and working with homeowners (at risk of foreclosure, caught in predatory loans, or in need of budget counseling) and with loan servicers, on the behalf of homeowners, to negotiate/arrange loss mitigation plans, payment plans, and other measures to preserve home ownership.
Summary: Trains, counsels and otherwise prepares first-time home buyers for pre-approval for financing for home purchase (including counseling on credit, down payment, loan options, home selection, insurance, working with Realtors, etc.); teaches the NHS Home Ownership class curriculum weekly; counsels and works with homeowners to preserve their home ownership (those at risk of foreclosure, caught in predatory loans, or in need of budget counseling) and with lenders on behalf of homeowners to negotiate/arrange loss mitigation plans, payment plans, and other measures to preserve home ownership.
PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Counsels and works with families attempting to become homeowners to prepare them for pre-approval for financing through NHS/NLS or a partner-lender. This includes one-on-one counseling & consultation; teaching the NHS class curriculum weekly and follow-up to ensure that successful home ownership is achieved by as many families as possible. Counsels and assists homeowners post-purchase to maintain their home ownership and provides foreclosure intervention services. •Supports the Illinois Hardest Hit Foreclosure Prevention program. •Provides individual and group education & consultation to participants in Employer-Assisted Home ownership and IDA programs. •Provides counseling and training to families enrolled in the “Choose to Own” program (Section 8 vouchers for Home ownership). •Works with neighborhood offices to support their home ownership and foreclosure prevention activities. •Maintains required job skills and core professional competencies. Attends and participates in required educational programs and staff meetings. •Performs other duties as assigned.
High School diploma or equivalent required. Some college and 2 years mortgage lending/processing and customer service experience preferred; or high school diploma and 3 years mortgage lending/processing and customer service experience.
Two years work experience; experience in mortgage lending/processing, real estate sales, credit counseling or other counseling preferred.
Special Knowledge & Skills:
•Completion of NeighborWorks Certifications in Home Ownership Education and Counseling coursework and certifications as a Home Ownership Counselor within nine (9) months of hire. •Must pass the HUD certification exam within twelve (12) months of hire. •Reading, writing and mathematical skills with mathematical aptitude sufficient to produce error-free loan documentation •Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team environment for problem-solving and resolution of customer issues •Proficiency in Windows-based software; Demonstrated ability to learn and use database, customer tracking, and other software •Excellent organizational skills •Excellent oral and written communication skills •Proven ability to coordinate multiple tasks •Demonstrated ability to service a multi-cultural customer base •Demonstrated ability to perform within established timelines
Flexible scheduling for some evenings and weekends is required. Valid drivers license with access to an automobile for occasional visits to neighborhood offices and offsite staff meetings.
