Job Summary: The Senior Compensation Analyst works under general direction and in collaboration with the Director of Compensation & Recognition and Lead Compensation Analysts to administer staff compensation programs that support the University's research and education missions and ensuring the enhancement of the organization's ability to recruit, engage and retain staff. The Senior Analyst assists with day-to-day salary administration activities, evaluates and analyzes salary data, determines pay grades, and conducts or participates in compensation surveys, conducts job evaluations and may serve on job evaluation committees. They will also develop compensation models, reports and analysis used to analyze activity and to support recommendations to management. The Senior Analyst applies relevant experience and uses some judgment and discretion in working through and resolving issues with client partners but relies on and works collaboratively with Leads and the Director.
Assists in the delivery of compensation services by assisting Leads with establishing and implementing salaries for new hires and pay adjustments for current staff, promotions, reclassifications, equity issues, salary adjustments, reorganizations, etc., participates in the coordination and execution of the annual salary planning process including initiating contact with business units, providing direction on merit increases and promotions, and evaluating internal equity amongst employee population.
Participates in salary surveys, loads survey data into market data management software, and maintains benchmark job data and employee data. Conducts market studies to determine benchmarks, gathering going rates of pay, and determining competitive positioning. Analyzes salary survey data, evaluates market trends, and makes recommendations regarding organizational salary adjustments, merit budgets, structure adjustments (including geographic structures) and incentive eligibility levels. Analyzes, forecasts and reports labor market trends and developments in pay, unemployment, CPI and turnover Assists in the preparation of merit budget recommendations, salary structure changes and other related actions.
Job Analysis/Evaluation and Documentation
Supports Leads in the conduct of job analyses and evaluations by researching and investigating issues and making data-driven recommendations for resolution. Prepares job documentation (descriptions) as part of functional reviews to ensure completeness, accuracy and conformance to institutional standards. May conduct job analyses, job audits, evaluations and related actions for standard jobs.
Data Analysis and Reporting
Provides compensation analysis, data collection, and reporting support for Leads, performs analysis on effectiveness and competitiveness of existing compensation programs and models potential impact of design of new programs, develops compensation models and reports used to analyze activity and to support recommendations to management. Manages the flow of information between Leads and maintains data integrity by working to eliminate redundancy. Stays informed of the ways the organization uses its data.
Project Management and Compliance
Participates in various projects relative to the review, design or modification of compensation programs, policies or processes suggesting methods to simplify/enhance processes. Helps to ensure compliance with state, local and federal laws and regulations, company policies and procedures by adhering to institutional systems, policies and governmental regulations.
Completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as human resources, or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
3 years of professional experience in a similar role or in professional compensation related roles with increasing levels of responsibility
Certification as a Compensation Professional (i.e. CCP designation) preferred.
